WATCH IN EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION, COMING FROM MY PRIVATE COLLECTION
The movement of this Longines 6474 is often referred to as one of the best chronograph movements of all time. It is the legendary Longines hand-wound 30CH caliber with a Flyback complication.
This one in particular dates back to 1953 and is the extremely rare MK1 version. Unlike the later version, the MK1 has an unsigned crown, unsigned caseback and a smaller chronograph button, larger diameter counters. Today only 5 pieces of the MK1 version are known in the world, making this Longines a collector’s item par excellence. The natural aging of the dial is absolutely breathtaking.
The warm patina gives the watch a true vintage character. The hour numbers and hands still have the original radium lume, which can be checked with the Geiger counter (see photo).
The 37mm case was rather atypical for the 1950s. Today, however, this diameter enjoys great popularity. The elegant stainless steel case with stepped bezel is excellently preserved. Considering the age of 68, the condition of this Longines watch is simply incredible. The 30CH caliber Flayback complication works perfectly. The chronograph can be reset and started immediately with the lower push button.
The Longines archive extract confirms that this watch was sold to Longines-Wittnauer Co. on November 26, 1953. This company was the official Longines dealer in the United States, and is also accompanied by the following accessory:
